Aliens

Left Amarillo at 8:30 with the temps in the 50's. Needless to say it's windy again.  Going to check out those Aliens in Roswell, NM today.  It's only a little over 200 miles and we can take it slow.  The topography is really changing with the red soil giving way to sandy soil and tumble weeds replaced by all sorts of Cactus.  Crossed the Pecos River. Heard that name lots in movies of yore.
On and On we go

sand and cactus, but we haven't seen nothin yet.

Pulled into the Midway RV Park with the temperature at 85.  Another PA Park at $15.00. No sewer at the site but it's in ok shape for an overnighter.  It's interesting how much the temp varies during the day. We start out with shirt, sweater and jacket and start removing layers with every gas fill-up.  Soon as we get set up its a change to shorts and sandals.  By about 5:00 it's starting to get dark and I start adding layers when I take Charli out for her evening stroll.

Went to Walmart to get some groceries and to see a UFO museum.  The museum was interesting but had far too much information and was poorly laid out.  There were copies of newspaper articles from the 40's and 50's about the UFO and Alien sightings but for my old eyes they really needed to enlarge the print.

Lori found some new friends

One of our dilemmas' when we were planning our trip is what we would do for phone and internet.  Most RV Parks in the US have Wifi but often service is spotty.  Using Rogers, even with their travel plans is very expensive so that left two options.  Get to the US and drop into a Verison store and get a month to month contract for phone service and a Hotspot device.  The other option which I only discovered a few weeks before we left, is Roam Mobility.  A Cdn company based in BC which had fairly reasonable rates.  I arranged to have my Rogers IPhone unlocked so I could use it with the new SIM card from Roam.  Also ordered a HotSpot device so we could access the Net with our iPads and MacAir while on the move.  Unfortunately Roam's coverage is pretty spotty in the northern US and then only 2G which is pretty useless.  As we have moved south coverage is better, 4G, and it is working OK.  Unfortunately my iPhone has never recognized Roams SIM so for phone calls back home we have been using Googles Hangouts which works ok but there is quite a delay in the conversation and often sounds like your in an echo chamber.  Roam is mailing a new SIM card to us in Tucson and hopefully that works and we will have reliable phone service.  I have discovered I can do without TV but I have to have the Internet.

Later.
