Oregon Coast - Bandon

 Bandon, Oregon.

The surf was crashing and threw up a spray that obliterated the blue sky above and often hid the sea stacks that towered out of the ocean.   We walked along the beach just after sun rise and while we were well up from the crashing waves every once in a while a rogue wave would come in and chase us up the beach.

Great fun.

The remnants of one of the old piers in Bandon harbour

Lighthouse at the point outside the Bandon harbour.

Bandon Coquille Point.  We got down to the beach as the sun was coming over the mountains.  The morning sun and the sea spray provided some great light.  Lots of people out walking.  Definitely a place that deserves a return visit.

Perhaps my favourite shot.  A giant stump was washed ashore and looks like its taking root.

Sea stacks appeared like magic as the sun rose higher and burned off some of the spray.

Face rock.  Do you see it.

Now that's one big slug.

Battle Rock and Boiler Bay up next.

Oregon Coast - Andersons View Point and Astoria

We are now finishing up week 3 in Gold Canyon.  In my last post, more than 1 month ago, we were driving through Oregon towards the coast.  So what has happened in the past month and why have I been MIA.

When we started our trek I said to myself, "Self, no more procrastinating (yea, like that was going to happen) Post pictures every night so I don't have a massive backlog to wade through."

Obviously, my internal conversation fell on deaf ears.  After long days driving and exploring, the last thing I wanted to do was pull out the laptop.  So here we are after almost a week traveling the Oregon Coast (which was amazing) another 4 days in San Francisco and 2 days in Yosemite National Park (also amazing) and an overnight in Havasu City, we pulled into Gold Canyon.  We took a week to get settled and during the past 2 weeks we have restarted our hiking regime and finishing up our interior reno project.

I will now make a concerted effort to get caught up in my pictorial narrative of our trip by posting blogs in somewhat chronological order showing the various points of interest.

Everyone said the Oregon Coast would be a highlight and they were certainly bang on in extolling its virtues.  We didn't have a lot of rain but the skies were grey much of the time and I never did get that amazing sunset.  Maybe next time.

Astoria.

Drove over the causeway to get to Astoria which is at the mouth of the Columbia River.  Lots of fresh water here.  Bet Arizona is jealous.

What does one do when you get all your ducks in a row only to find out the're Pelicans.  Hmmmm.

Andersons View Point.

So many great lookouts along the coast.  Finally had some blue skies and the colours really popped.

The tree along the coast almost look like Bonsai trees.  With the wind constantly blowing in from the ocean the tree branches develop a windswept look.

Next up Bandon, Or.
