Today we took a drive to Julian, Ca. and decided to take Charli as she had been couped up in the trailer for the last few days and was getting a bit shack wacky. Julian is a little town in the mountains once known for its mining and now famous for its apple pie. We left Vista at an elevation of about 350 ft and arrived at Julian at approximately 4000 ft. It was a winding uphill drive along the side of the mountains but far more fun than driving on the freeways.
Our Garmin GPS took us on an interesting route. At one point we exited the freeway on an off ramp and immediately took the next on ramp back onto the same freeway. On our return it had us do exactly the same thing. Turns out that at the point we exited the freeway was where the toll booths were for the Toll Highway. We didn't even realize that it was a Toll road but our GPS is programmed to avoid them so I guess the GPS did its job even if we didn't understand what was going on.
Julian's Main street is lined with shops and restaurants. Some of the shops were closed and it appears that in the off season many are only open on weekends. We ended up at the Julian Pie Company for lunch. For $9.00 we got a sandwich, coffee and a delicious slice of Apple Pie. We also bought a whole Carmel Dutch Apple Pie to take home for $19.00 plus some Cinnamon Ice Cream. Looking forward to dessert for the next week.

Was really nice to see open country side. The coast is all freeways, cars, buildings and people. |
|
Stopped at a roadside park to stretch our legs and take a little hike. |
|
A look down the valley behind us. |

A dentist appointment may be needed before we get home. |
Tomorrow its La Jolla Cove and Shell Beach to see the Sea Lions.
