Dead Horse State Park

I was out taking Charli for a walk around the campground yesterday and came upon a couple of Arizonians sitting by their trailer enjoying cocktail hour.  We exchanged pleasantries and then he asked me if I had gone to the early poles and voted for Trump.  I explained that as I was not a citizen of this country I wouldn’t be able to cast a ballot.  He said that shouldn’t be a problem as they were letting anybody in to vote.  The stories are running rampant down here about people registering their dogs to vote and people claiming to be someone they aren’t so they can vote twice.  Its interesting that you don’t have to show ID when you go to vote.  Simply state your name and address as near as I can tell and they give you a ballot.  The election paranoia is at a fevered pitch with ads being run constantly on TV.  Plenty of stories about people waiting for 3-4 hours to vote in the early poles.  Keep in mind they are voting for numerous different offices from President, the legislative branches of Congress, State District Attorney, Sheriff among others.  Additionally they also vote on any number of Propositions. One of the issues in Arizona is to decide whether to legalize Marijuana much like Colorado and a few other states have done.  Will be so glad when Tuesday has come and gone and perhaps the political rhetoric will subside.

Sunday we went to Dead Horse State Park for a hike and decided to pay the $75. fee for an annual pass rather than the $7. daily pass.  We figure to be using the hiking trails in a number of the state parks during our 2 months in Arizona so we should get our moneys worth.

We set out on a 2 mile hike but took a wrong turn and ended up on our way to Sedona which was 13 miles one way.  We turned around after about an hour as 26 miles return trip was just a bit much for our first real hike of the season.

The park is very nice with a great campground although they don’t provide full services so wouldn't suit our needs.  They do have a number of lagoons with walking trails and are stocked with fish.  There were lots of people dipping their lines and saw a few pull some fish out.  I suspect its catch and release.

One of the many lagoons fully stocked for anglers.

All in all a very pleasant day.  We are off to Sedona on Monday.  Lori is buying me lunch for my birthday.
