Iceland May 27/25 Day 2

We were out early on Day 2 to take in more sights of Reykjavik.  We walked the streets, took a Puffin boat tour in the harbour (very disappointing) and then experienced the culinary delights of Iceland on a food tour.  We hit about 5 restaurants with small bites at each.  We had some blue shark, which has the consistency of rubber and is marinated in Ammonia to safely remove the mercury which occurs naturally in the ocean depths.  I guess we should consider ourselves fortunate as they used to marinate the shark in urine to remove the mercury.  We also had a few other more palatable dishes including their world famous hot dogs, Arctic Char, Lamb, and Mashed fish.  We finished off the tour with some Rye Bread Ice Cream with a Rhubarb sauce.  Lori got the recipe and she has made it a number of times since we returned.  It is fabulous.

Generally the buildings are pretty drab in Iceland.
However the tourist district is an exception.

Danish tall ship in harbour.
Saw a few sailors walking around town.
They were dressed in sailor garb typical of the period.

Site of meeting between Gorbachev and Regan 1986.
Discussions centred on Nuclear Arms treaty.
How far we have fallen from those optimistic days.
