Apachie Tears

Been over a week ago now that we took a hike to the Apachie Tears mine but we have been a bit busy and I haven't been keeping up with my blogs.  We have been to the mine before but took a different, much more scenic route this time.  We started out at the Pickett Post trailhead and headed to Arnott canyon which is a frequent trip for us but we veered off from the canyon into unknown territory and with the help of the All Trails App we got to the mine and back again.  We picked up some tears at the old mine site and had a great morning out in the wilds.

The stream in the canyon isn't flowing however a few ponds fed
from underground pop up now and then and then disappear
back into the sand.

Weavers needle can be seen for miles

A fence surrounds the mine entrance however
the razor wire seems a bit of overkill given there are
huge holes in the fence which people have been
using to access the mine.

Not a mine in the traditional sense.  Basically caverns blasted into the mountainside.

The fence keeps cattle in or perhaps out.  Not sure as we didn't see any.

A nice hike.  7.5 miles with only about 689 ft of elevation gain.  Next up just under 10 miles with 1542 ft elevation gain.
