After our visit to Rosevelt Dam we decided to take the short drive to Apache Lake which was just 12 miles down the Apache Trail road. The road is a narrow, winding and sometimes rough gravel road so 12 miles took us about 30 minutes.
Apache Trail, an old stagecoach route, used to take you all the way to Tortilla Flats and then on to Apache Junction and Phoenix beyond that but fires, flash floods and rock falls have closed the road the past few years. There seems little political will to spend the millions it would take to reconstruct the road so Apache Lake is effectively the end of the road.
Its a beautiful area with a small resort and campground down by the water. There were some brave souls testing the suspension on their trailers as they bounced down the road for a remote camping experience.

Not sure what the price of gas was but there were no lineups. |

The last photographer club outing of the year. We had some good trips and great fun and hope for bigger and better next year.
