Time to recount Snowbird 8. Yes its been 8 years that we have been heading south for the winter. We started in November, 2014. Took a year off to get our house ready to sell and another year due to Covid. We started with a truck and 5th wheel and in November 2019 we purchased our park model trailer. We have done a number of renovations and have made the place our own.
I'm not sure what the future will hold but for the time being we are enjoying our winters in Arizona with some side trips on the way down and a few short getaway trips while we are here.
We have tried to spice up our summers a bit with a trip to Newfoundland this past year and an Alaska cruise planned for the summer. A trip to the Maritimes is definitely in the future and Iceland and perhaps a trip across the pond, now that Lori survived her first airplane ride in 17 years, has been discussed. We worked and saved for all those years so we could travel and Covid made us realize that we better get at it as time and health can be fleeting.
We left home on October 13 and with a stop for night in Swift Current we hit Lethbridge the next morning. Carrie was off with her mom and sister for a girls weekend in Montana so it was Lori and the boys. We spent some time catching up, went to one of Milo's hockey games and then we all went out for dinner. Boy can those boys eat.
Yes that is the puck in Milo's glove. A late game saving catch. |
The next morning we headed for our first stop on our trip down. Yellowstone. One of the reasons we left so early is we wanted to do Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. Since snow can happen almost anytime of the year in that part of the country an early October start was essential. We lucked out. We had perfect weather for all of our stops and about a week after our visits they got a foot of snow.
The drive down through Montana was gorgeous with the fall colours and snow covered peaks in the distance.
Sunrise as we drive south from Lethbridge |
Somewhere in Montana.
Next up a few days in Yellowstone.
