Gilbert Riparin Preserve

On Sunday we headed over to Gilbert to visit the Riparian Preserve.  It is a 110-acre wetland and wildlife preserve that supports various habitats, wildlife, and plant life.
In 1986, the Town of Gilbert made a commitment to reuse 100% of its effluent water. What they created was a park with diverse wetlands, hiking and biking trails and a great place to take pictures.  Of the 110 acres, 70 acres make up the 7 water recharge basins that are filled on a rotating basis with treated effluent and allowed to percolate into the aquifer where it is stored for future use. An additional lake is filled with reclaimed water and is designated as an urban fishing resource.  ThePreserve is also dog friendly although we didn't realize this and left Charli back at the trailer.  So many well behaved dogs, all on leashes.  Too bad some of the owners are not as well trained as we had to side step dog poop numerous times.  I don't get some owners.

Not sure why but the number and variety of birds was down from what we saw 3 years ago. We did get a few good shots though and here they are.

A zig zag bridge crossing the lake.
Perfect for feeding the ducks and a lone Canada Goose.
Also great place to get some closeup photos.

Found an Egret on the shore stalking lunch.

Bunnies everywhere.
No desert rats though, unlike our last visit.

Lots of cute wildlife

At first I thought it was a log, then it moved, submerged and resurfaced.
Turtles kept popping up periodically

Not sure what this plant is.
Looked like a weed but had some very pretty flowers.

Nice reflection

Saw lots of these but this was the only one close enough to get a good shot

Must have been nap time.
Almost all had their beaks tucked under their wing.

Back at the trailer, more wildlife.
Charli and Rudi.

Next up Boyce Thompson and lunch at Porters.

Till then.
