Well it is official. Wiebe’s Wanderings is back. We are now house-less and living in our 5er. The past few months have been spent packing up our belongings and on Friday the movers showed up. Took them about 6 hours to pack up some of our remaining items and load the truck. In the meantime I was readying our 5er for the short trip to Town & Country RV Park where we will spend the better part of the next 3 months. Saturday we went back to do a final clean of the house and cut the grass one last time. My neighbour has offered to let me cut his grass if I go into withdrawal from not being able to drive my JD Garden Tractor. I don't think I will feel that need for some time.
The culling, selling and packing process (you can really accumulate a lot of stuff in 23 years, much of it seldom used) really started last September when we made the decision that our chosen retirement lifestyle and owning an acerage were just not compatible. For every road trip in the summer, regardless of the duration, it seemed like it was at least a week of intensive yard work to get the place ship shape. In the winter our planned Snowbird trips meant relying on friends and neighbours to check the house and blow the snow and, while everybody said they didn't mind, I didn't want to wear out our welcome. There was always the fear, probably unfounded, that the something would go wrong with the septic field or well and we would have major problems.
Our new house is being built in a Condo development in Oakbank, not far from our previous home, and while a bit smaller, at 1400 sq ft with an unfinished basement and double garage I think we will have ample room (time to accumulate more stuff, not). We have actually sold much of our furniture and all of our yard equipment so we can buy new furnishings that will fit the smaller rooms. Yard equipment won’t be required as snow clearing and mowing the grass is taken care of, for a small monthly fee of course.
In order to fill our time during the next few months we hope to do some touristy type stuff around Winnipeg. Many of the sights we simply take for granted and haven't visited for years. Will try to keep you updated although we have already discovered that posting to the blog will require a visit to Timmies or Starbucks for some reliable Wifi. The campground signal, no surprise, is spotty at best.
Will add some pics for your viewing pleasure once we get to a better wifi spot. Right now we are hunkering down in the trailer waiting out a thunder storm. No hail or funnel clouds yet but we are keeping our eyes peeled. Nothing like being in a trailer during a thunder storm to feel closer to nature. I prefer a little distance myself.
