View from our front step

Each year a pair of owls have been nesting in the palm trees in the park.  A different tree each year so about this time everyone starts to keep an eye out for nest building activity.  They were hooting up a storm just down our street so I ventured out to see what I could see.  No owls in sight however the view was pretty spectacular.

There is a bright star just above and to the right of the moon.  Just barely visible in the picture but quite bright and prominent in the night sky.  I'd say its the North Star but its in the southern sky.  Perhaps Venus?  Any astronomers out there who know what it is let me know.

A couple of hikes to report on and will try to get that done in the next day or so.  Next week is full of reno activity so no time for hiking or blogging.  Flooring install on Monday/Tuesday.  The plumber comes on Monday to disconnect the bathtub faucet and remove the kitchen sink.  Tuesday/Wednesday we have a company coming to refinish our bathtub, shower surround and the bathroom and kitchen countertop.  Thursday furniture gets delivered.  Friday plumber comes back to reconnect bathtub faucet and kitchen sink.  We are moving out for a couple of nights as the smell from the refinishing is apparently pretty toxic.  Mark and Jan have graciously offered to put us up.

Once next week is done, other than a few thing like baseboards and some touchups we should be done with constructions for this year.  Painting the bathroom walls and cupboards is already scheduled for next year however after this year any project we tackle will be a breeze compared to what we tackled this year.
