On our drive in we came upon some of the wild horses, including the new foal, Moonfire. The band was grazing right beside the highway so along with a few dozen other people we stopped to take some pictures. In the past 2 years the band has had 3 new foals. Unfortunately Cougars have taken 2 of them. Fingers crossed that this one will make it to adulthood.
A few days ago Lori and I went for a short hike along the Salt River hoping to find the horses again. There has been lots of rain this fall and the desert is green with grass and other foliage so they are spending more of their time up in the hills. We only spotted 2 horses as they came down to the river but they didn't stay long. We did manage to spot a Blue Heron, Egrets and an Osprey.
I'll be heading back for a more extensive visit but will leave Lori behind. How someone can spend hours shopping in a mall and have so little patience when waiting for the horses to appear is a mystery.
