Moraine Lake, Alberta, Sept/24

We finally made it to Moraine Lake and it was as jaw dropping as we had heard.  After spending some time at the lake we took the Larch Trail for a hike up to a meadow above the lake.  The fall foliage in the meadow was supposed to be beautiful however grizzly activity on the trail forced us to turn around.

Lots of red canoes on the lake

Glaciers hanging on to the edge of the mountains

yes the lake is that blue.

Beautiful location for wedding photos

Banff, Alberta. September 2024

Last fall we went to visit the Canadian Rockies.  We stayed in Banff for 8 days and took in the sights around Banff, Lake Louise, Moraine Lake and Emerald Lake.  Then we headed up to Jasper for a few days taking in the Columbia Ice-fields along the way.  Our visit to Jasper was curtailed because of the big forest fire earlier in the year.  Much of the forest and parts of the town of Jasper succumbed to the fire.  Still plenty of beauty left to see but it will take generations for the forests to recover.  Hopefully the town of Jasper will be able to rebuild quickly.

The beauty of the Canadian Rockies is simply unmatched and hopefully my pictures in the next series of posts will do justice to what we saw.

These shots were taken in Banff.  Many of them are from the Cascade of Time Garden.

More From Lost Goldmine Trail

Lori, Barb, Sue, Murphy and I went for a hike on Friday to the Lost Goldmine Trail.  We are all, Murphy gets to stay home with Dave, heading down to Tucson to hike Sabino Canyon on Thursday before heading further south to take in the Tubac Arts Festival.  Consider this a training hike for Sabino Canyon.

Freestone Park, Gilbert, Az

Lori, JC and I went to Freestone Park with the Monte Vista Photoclub to shoot some birds.   Compared to the Riparian which we frequently visit for the birds, Freestone is much smaller with paved paths and some fountains, waterfalls and foliage which provide some good background for shots.

We keep finding new places to visit.

Birds in flight are so difficult.  Background is a bit messy but finally got one in focus.

Bad hair day

Cormorants are great to shoot.  They are slow moving and are great posers.

Where the expression "Like water off the ducks back" came from.

Tempe Blooms

On Saturday Lori and I took a drive to Tempe to take in the Tempe Blooms festival.  Sue and Barb came with us and I wandered taking some candid shots while they took in the kiosks and floral displays.
